Netflix Has Acquired Kunle Afolayan’s Acclaimed Film "Mokalik"

Netflix’s Africa agenda is off to a roaring start. earlier this year, the streaming platform had reveal plans to order more content, original or otherwise, from Africa, and it looks like they are making good on that promise.

After the critical success of “Beast of No Nation“, Netflix acquired Genevieve Nnaji’sLionheart“, Chiwetel Ejiofor’sThe Boy Who Harnessed The Wind“, and its first African animated series, “Mama K’s Team 4“.

Looks like they’re not stopping there. At the French-Nigerian Cinema Days, which held from July 2-3 in Lagos, award-winning Nigerian director and producer, Kunle Afolayan, revealed that Netflix has acquired the rights to his acclaimed movie, Mokalik;

I wish to inform you that Netflix has acquired “Mokalik” and some of my other films.

Mokalik follows the story in the life of 11 year old Jaiye, who is sent by his parents to work at a mechanic workshop — in order to give him a different perspective on life. Singer-songwriter, Simi makes her acting debut as the daughter of a local restaurant (Buka) owner, whom Jaiye develops a crush on.

There is no set date yet for when “Mokalik” will be released on Netflix.
